Senator Ashli Matta is a senator of South Carolina, the state with the highest amount of obese children. Ashli was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina on April 9, 1965. She had a younger sister who she watched grow up with obesity. Because of this, Ashli has been fighting to put an end to, or at least help diminish, childhood obesity. Senator Matta graduated from Cornel Medical School, where she received her doctorate. She then began to visit elementary schools all over the nation and speak to the young children about the importance of their health and their eating habits. But this just wasn’t enough for her. She didn’t just want to help a few schools here and there with her inspirational words; she wanted to help all schools across the nation. And that’s what she is trying to do today: she’s using her healthy voice, to promote kids to make a healthy choice.
